Prayer is our primary way of communicating and fellowship with God. This makes praying central to our relationship with God. If there is anything that can hinder your prayer that thing will affect your relationship with God. Satan knows that if he can hinder our prayer he can stand in our ways and do or undo in the affairs of children of God. It is therefore expedient that you know the things that can stand on the way of your prayer and how to handle them so that your prayer life will remain intact.
One of the greatest challenges of man with God is sin. Sin was the cause of all the problems that man ever had with God. God originally created this world free of trouble and pain until sin came in. Adam and Eve were deceived in the Garden of Eden by Satan Genesis 3: 1- 7. They disobeyed God and sin entered their lives. Sin destroyed the relationship they had with God. Prior to disobeying God, God will come in the cool of the day to fellowship with Adam and Eve.
Genesis 3: 8
And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and Eve hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden
When they sinned this relationship was destroyed. They could not fellowship with God as they used to. They lost their lofty position and were sent packing from the Garden of Eden.
Genesis 3: 23b
Therefore the Lord god sent him out of the Garden of Eden to till the ground from which he was taken. So he drove out man…
God stopped communicating with them as He used to. Worst of it all they became spiritually dead.
What happened to Adam and Eve shows how terrible sin is to our relationship with God. It took Jesus coming into the earth to die and atone for our sin for us to have the privilege of being restored into fellowship with God.
When a child of God who has been saved continues to live in sin he is taking what God has done for him through Jesus for granted. You can’t be a child of God and continue to live in sin. Sin will break your fellowship with God. If your fellowship with God is broken many things will fall out of place in your life. If you are living in sin, your sin will hinder your prayer.
Romans 6: 1 & 2
…shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? NKJV
It is the grace of God that saved us from the power and consequence of sin. If we continue to live in sin after we have given our life to Christ (after being saved) we will be taking the grace of God for granted and sin will destroy our relationship with God. Sin causes a gap between man and God.
If you go into sin without repenting then your prayer won’t get to God. You will be mocking God by living in sin and expecting Him to answer your prayers. As a child of God you are to continue in holy life, living according to the word of God in other to preserve your relationship with God. Sin is dangerous to your relationship with God. It has the capacity to hinder your prayers.
