I’m glad that you are reading this, because you will be surprised at how much we have underutilized the benefits of praying in tongues. There are so much more to praying in tongues than we have taken advantage of.
The upper room experience ushered in the dispensation of the Holy Spirit and transformed our relationship with God. In fact, it heralded the New Testament church experience.
Since the upper room, Pentecostal Christians have been known with speaking in tongues. This same experience has been called different name by different people at the different time. The same speaking in tongues has been referred to as praying in tongues, praying in the Holy Ghost, praying in the Spirit. It is commonly called “Kabashing” among Nigerian Christian students.
Speaking in tongues is one of the hallmarks of the Pentecostal move across the nations and over the ages. This experience started from the upper room following the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Speaking in tongues as you may know is a visible evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It is clear from the bible that genuine Holy Ghost experiences in the New Testament are always accompanied by the evidence of speaking in tongues.
Speaking in tongues as an evidence of the in filling of the Holy Spirit is supposed to be the starting point of our experiences in the Holy Spirit and not everything. As common as praying in tongues has become among today’s charismatic Christians, only very few exploit its tremendous power.
I believe we will not have access to all God has for us as Spirit filled believers unless we spend time praying in the Holy Ghost. The truth is, when we pray in tongues we pray in the language of the Holy Spirit and in the power of the Spirit and there is hardly anything that will be impossible to us. I also believe that we will see more demonstration of the power of the Spirit in our lives and our meetings if we will commit to praying in the Holy Ghost more than ever before. When we pray in tongues we are teaming up with the Holy Spirit to get things done in the realm of the spirit. The more we pray in tongues the more we join hand with the Holy Spirit to make things happen.
How to Tap into the Benefits of Praying in Tongue
Speaking in tongues is for you and I to enjoy. However many tongue talking Christians don’t know how to tap into the benefits of praying in tongues. They speak few words in tongues occasionally and never do more than that. If you want to exploit the benefit of praying in other tongues, you have to be a real tongue talker spending time to pray in other tongues. You will not tap into all the benefits of speaking in tongues by occasional five to ten minutes of tongue speaking. Apostle Paul said that he spoke in tongue more than the others. This gives me an idea that Paul really spent time praying in other tongues.
You can devote a good amount of time to praying in tongues daily and as you do this you will begin to enjoy the numerous benefits of praying in tongues.
Following are simple and effective way to tap into the benefits of praying in tongues.
1. Spend time praying in tongues whenever you feel down spiritually. When you pray in tongues your spirit becomes strengthened. 1 Cor. 14: 4 (NLT)
2. When speaking in tongues, you are directly on God’s hotline. You communicate directly with God. 1 Cor. 14: 2
3. Switch to praying in tongues anytime you are confused about something. Praying in tongues bypasses your mind thereby bring clarity from your spirit. 1 Cor. 14: 14. Your spirit can’t be confused, only you mind can.
